repo ценные бумаги, переданные взаймы (с обеспечением или без обеспечения) для того, чтобы заемщик мог своевременно исполнить свои обязательства по сделкам (провел расчеты по сделкам); при этом право собственности на ценные бумаги переходит к заемщику для того, чтобы обеспечить ему возможность их продажи или последующей передачи другому заемщику.
Данный термин нередко используется как для обозначения собственно сделок займа ценных бумаг (кредитования ценными бумагами), так и сделок РЕПО; отличие между этими двумя видами сделок состоит в том, что ценные бумаги предоставляются взаймы под обеспечение (другие ценные бумаги или денежные средства); целью подобной сделки является обычно стремление заемщика занять ценные бумаги для исполнения своих обязательств по поставке
